fafinal has been bugging me to finish this website for a few months now. He has a valid point. This place has been in its current state of disarray since 31 Dec 2008. That's 9 months and 6 days, if you're counting.
This is going to be a busy week, so definitely don't expect any improvements within the next few days. There are currently 156 items in the pipe waiting to go live. Maybe by Thanksgiving I will have something...

Hello world!
This is my first post at DarinPantley.com using the new code I added today. It's now possible for me to submit new content without manually crafting SQL queries to submit via phpMyAdmin.
It's all a bit shaky right now, but progress is progress. I have a huge backlog of content that needs to be put up once I get this ironed out. Many basic features are still missing.

Hello faithful visitor. Do you want the good news first or the bad news? The bad news? Alrighty then...
Nikhil's laptop and XBox 360 were stolen today between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The police say they'll keep an eye out for them. Part of the standard questioning procedure involved asking if we had stolen it.
And the good news? Riverbed contacted me recently with an interesting sounding project. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to work on it this summer, since it's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to try next.

The commenting system isn't live yet, but that's probably a good thing at this point. I still need to add the ability to create/edit/delete posts.

Progress has been stalled this week, as I've been more busy than usual. I have an exam tonight and homework to work on after that (which will probably take a significant amount of time). That's the bad news.
The good news is I have an interview lined up with one of my top internship picks next week and our ACM project is coming along nicely. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to make some more progress on the Ruby on Rails back-end. I'm not happy with the front-end yet, but it's good enough to proceed with getting this place back to a normal operating schedule.

I finally started working on the new site design. My first attempt resulted in
this. After a few bug-fixes it became
this.
I showed this version to a few people. Andre quickly exclaimed "MY EYES". Steve's friend Matt declared it was "unspeakably lame". Mike said, "It stinks. It lacks all subtlety." Mark said, "I think its way better" (heavy sarcasm intended) and Natalie said "WHOAA different alnguages" (original spelling).
After getting a few pointers from Mike,
I tried again. The logo, which was widely despised when introduced, is just a temporary placeholder until I make a new one. The color theme, including the background color, bothers me, but I'll fix that later. Obviously the drop-down navigation bar is still under construction. It needs to be re-colored and re-positioned. Aside from that, what do you think of the layout? Perhaps the comments should be darker. I'm considering making the post titles really small. I'm not sure where I'll put the CAPTCHA yet, as I'll no doubt need one.
I think this dark design looks better than the new light one right now. Hopefully with a little more work that will no longer be the case.
